AID TO THE CHURCH IN NEED (ACN) is a wonderful organization which provides support to the Church in the developing world, helping build churches, equip schools, train seminarians for the priesthood, even providing when needed motorbikes and mules! They also support and assist persecuted Christians. Their magazine the Mirror is a very informative read. Next week, from November 17th to 24th, they call our attention to their Week of Witness; a time to remember and pray for all who are persecuted for their Christian faith. They inform us that the top countries which persecute Christians are: North Korea, Somalia, Yemen, Eritrea, and Nigeria. Not surprisingly, now, ACN are focusing on the small number of Christians in Gaza. Fr. Gabriel, the PP of the only Catholic church in Gaza, Holy Family, has an interesting article in the magazine. Also, there’s a lovely article about the Tabash family, old friends of mine, who have an olive wood craft shop in Bethlehem. As you can imagine, their business has practically dried up. One of the sons, Romy, sang the psalm when Pope Francis said Mass in Manger Square in Bethlehem. You can support them via ACN by going to acnireland.org/shop
THE SPA is a collection of books published from 2013-2015, packed with photographs, flyers, history and memories of our wonderful town, its people and surrounds. These will not be reprinted, but the good news is that there are limited copies still available. They would make a wonderful Christmas gift for loved ones at home or abroad. The set of four books costs only euro 20, and are available from the author, Kenneth Flanagan, telephone: 086 222 22 90.
Carlo spent a lot of time in worship of Jesus, truly present in the tabernacle. He stayed there in silence, as though he were immersed in an intimate and personal dialogue with the Lord. He said that he liked to spend time in that place, which was special, because “He looks at me,”Carlo explained, “and I look at Him. That gaze is enriching. I let God observe me, dig deep inside me, form my soul and mould it. He is truly present, not an invention. He IS there! And if everyone could realize that, how they would run to it. If everyone believed in this truth, how their lives would change for the better.” (From My Son Carlo, by Signora Antonia Acutis)
