THANK YOU FOR LAST WEEK’S COLLECTION: €1462, and for €2813 for November Masses.
FOR THOSE WHO USE THEM, PLEASE TAKE YOUR NEW BOX OF COLLECTION ENVELOPES THIS WEEKEND. Thanks for your support and to all who support the parish however you do it!
ADVENT RETREAT: this Saturday afternoon, November 30th, from 2-4pm in the community room of Lisdoonvarna church, Mary Connolly will offer a time of reflection on the meaning of Advent. Mary is a former teacher, and director of liturgy for the Tuam Archdiocese.
GUEST SPEAKERS AT OUR ADVENT MASSES: December 7th/8th: Seamus Enright. Seamus is a husband and father who will speak about what his faith means to him. He helps to run the annual summer prayer camp at Fanore beach. December 14th/15th: Patricia Friel. We welcome Patricia back to the parish. She is the national director of Mary’s Meals, but on this occasion, she will talk about her own faith journey.
MASS CARDS AND GET-WELL MASS BOUQUETS are available at the four churches.
FUNERAL MINISTRY: thank you so much to those who have offered to serve as funeral ministers. The Parish Council would also like the discreet assistance of locals who will just be quietly present at times of a funeral to welcome people and steward them, help with parking, etc., and we applaud all those who already do so.
TAX REBATE SCHEME: thanks so much to parishioners who are already availing of this scheme, which is in place since the Finance Act of 2001 introduced tax relief for donors to charities such as our parish. For example, if you donate more than €250 annually, an additional €113 will accrue back to the parish, with no extra cost to you. Your donation can grow by 45% with just your signature, so please consider signing and dating a Revenue Form CHY3, which gives us an enduring certificate for 5 years. Just ask me for a form. No one else will see your data, which will be kept under lock and key. This scheme does not interfere with your own personal tax claims.
BLESSED CARLOACUTIS, our new teenage saint-to-be who died aged 15 after a leukemia diagnosis, will be canonised by Pope Francis on Sunday, April 27th, 2025 please God, during Sunday Mass at St. Peter’s Square, Rome. This will occur during the Jubilee Year of Hope as part of the Church’s Jubilee for Teenagers. Bishop Michael hopes to bring a group of young people to Rome for the event. I will keep you posted.
JUST AN IDEA, WHAT DO YOU THINK? As we really only use half of the main body of Lisdoonvarna church on a Sunday nowadays, I was thinking of installing a semi-circular altar area in front of the altar rails, just a temporary wooden platform as a trial, with a temporary altar. We would not of course move the present altar. I think it would be more “homely” and bring us more together “on the level” as it were, as a Christian community. What do you think?
PRAY FOR JOE: please pray for Joe Slattery, teenage son of Shane who teaches in Mary Immaculate Secondary school. Joe has been in a serious accident and is in hospital. Pray for the rest of the family too. The school Christmas Carol Service, 7pm on Thursday 19th in Lisdoonvarna Church will be in aid of Joe’s treatment.
FIRST CHILDREN’S ROSARY GATHERING: Sunday evening, December 8th, 6pm in the community room at Lisdoonvarna church. Children, young people, and adults welcome. I am most grateful to Lourda Dunne for launching this ministry to young people in the parish and beyond.
ST. VINCENT DE PAUL CHURCH GATE COLLECTION NEXT WEEKEND.
