Parish News
PARISH MISSION: Sincere thanks to those generous parishioners who provided meals and home baking during the mission week. You were so generous. Also, thank you to the priests who made themselves available for the Sacrament of Confession.
Fr. Robert and the Parish Council would be grateful for any feedback about the mission please. Just to remind you, the Parish Council are: Teresa Kelly (Chair), Ann Thynne (Secretary), (Kilshanny), Padraig Vaughan, Mary Sweeney (Doolin), Noel Considine, Catherine Fogarty (Toovahera), and Lourda Dunne, Deirdre Howley (Lisdoonvarna).
MEDJUGORJE-STYLE CANDLELIGHT ADORATION: this was a big hit at the parish mission. We will be continuing it please God every Wednesday evening at 6pm in Lisdoonvarna, followed by Holy Mass at 7pm.
RENOVATIONS UP-DATE for Corpus Christi Church, Lisdoonvarna: Tom Mc Namara and Partners and Guerin and Considine builders have informed us that work commenced on site with the erection of scaffolding on the week of September 11, 2023. To date, existing slate roofs have been stripped to address water ingress, and new lead work and re-slating done, especially on the worst-affected areas: the community room roof and surrounds, and the front entrance porch roof. We were pleasantly surprised to learn that less slates needed replacing that was thought. New asphalt finish has been applied to affected parts of the flat roofs and other areas. Roof works were to be substantially complete by this week, with scaffolding to be dismantled, but this has been somewhat delayed by the storm damage to the back area of the roof. Stonework pointing where water ingress was occurring has been done, as well as works to gutters and downpipes. Internally, work in the community room is progressing with the replacement and repair of damaged ceiling panels. Resurfacing and painting will follow here and in other areas inside the church affected by dampness, mould, paint-peeling, and insulation-issues. Separately, there has been some work done to the church heating-system: bleeding and repair of radiators, but ultimately, we have been advised to replace the boiler which was installed in 1998.
PASTORAL PLANS FOR THE FUTURE OF OUR DIOCESE: last June 2/3, I gave you a summary of a local area meeting with Bishop Michael and our own follow-up. The diocese has sent a longer summary. Copies are available for you this weekend. Let me or the parish council know what you think please.
