Parish News
PARISH WEBSITE: our new parish website, www.lisdoonvarnaparish.ie has been live since Christmas, and
contains all parish information, featuring the weekly newsletter, a secure link for donations, a link to a daily
blessing, and my weekly homilies. Any web designer out there would be most welcome to assist us. This might
be a nice project for secondary school students. All suggestions to Kate at katemcgavinwalsh@yahoo.com
Sincere thanks to Kate, Louise, and all involved.
MARY’S MEALS: we had a great turn out thank God of young people in Mary Immaculate Secondary school
who wish to form a group. They had some great ideas for fundraising, including climbing Croagh Patrick, with
myself celebrating holy Mass on the summit! There was a smaller but no less fervent gathering for the adult
meeting. I invite you to another one on Monday evening at 7pm in the Parochial House, in preparation for
taking part in the St. Patrick’s Day parade. Thank you also to Patricia Friel for her great sharing of personal
faith at the lovely gathering we had for First Communion and Confirmation candidates and their parents.
RENOVATIONS UPDATES AROUND THE PARISH AREAS. TOOVAHERA: we have passed the archaeological
survey and are now proceeding with the traffic survey, both of which are required by Clare County Council
before the granting of planning permission-please God!- for our church car park.
DOOLIN: It looks like we will need a new organ or keyboard.
KILSHANNY: the new carpark wall is completed and I’m sure you’ll agree it’s a beautiful job. Thankyou to Pat
Costello and team. We hope to surface the area, paint parking lines, and install better lighting. The dangerous
stonework at the entrance to the grotto has also been repaired and replaced. We are in the process of
applying for a community heritage grant of euro 25,000 to begin Kilshanny church renovation, focusing for
now on the choir area and roof, where there is extensive moss.
LISDOOVARNA: exterior roof leakage has been repaired, and the community room is almost complete. We
are waiting for carpet tiles. The interior work of treating and repainting areas of the walls will take a bit longer
due to dampness which needs to dry out. The statues of Our Lady and St. Joseph are getting an “upgrade” to
places on either side of the high altar.
A LENTEN PRAYER: Lord Jesus think on me, and purge away my sins, from earth-bound passions set me free,
and make me pure within. Lord Jesus think on me, not let me go astray, in darkness and perplexity, point thou
the heavenly way.
SINCERE THANKS to those who donated candles to be blest and used for Holy Mass in our churches. Thank
you to Jordan’s for their assistance in this.
