THE DESERT WAITS-A LENT POEM:
The desert waits, ready for those who come, who come obedient to the Spirit’s leading, or who are driven, because they will not come any other way.
The desert always waits, ready to let us know who we are-the place of self-discovery.
And while we fear, and rightly, the loneliness and emptiness and harshness, we forget the angels whom we cannot see for our blindness, but who come when God decides that we need their help; when we are ready for what they can give us. (Ruth Burgess)
Lord teach me to seek you, and reveal yourself to me as I seek, because I can neither seek you if you do not teach me how, nor find you, unless you reveal yourself. Let me seek you in desiring you, let me desire you in seeking you, let me find you in loving you, let me love you in finding you. (St. Anselm of Canterbury)
The Jesus prayer (each line said on a separate breath while breathing slowly in and out): Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner. You can of course substitute any other favourite or meaningful lines of Scripture.
