BISHOPS’ STATEMENT ON THE FAMILY AND CARE REFERENDUM on Friday, March 8 th : the proposed family
amendment to the Constitution diminishes the unique importance of the relationship between marriage and
family in the eyes of society and State and is likely to lead to a weakening of the incentive for young people to
marry. The Care amendment would have the effect of abolishing all reference to motherhood in the
Constitution and leave unacknowledged the particular and incalculable societal contribution that mothers in
the home have made and continue to make in Ireland. The role of mothers should continue to be cherished in
our Constitution.
KILSHANNY UPDATE: work is almost complete on a beautiful border wall for the church carpark. Thank you to
Pat Costello for doing a lovely job. With the help of Cllr. Shane Talty and Electric Ireland, we plan to install
better street lighting there and then to tarmac the surface and paint lines for parking spaces. We have been
advised professionally that removal of moss from the church roof which is causing some water ingress on the
choir side, urgently needs to be done and so we will move on it as soon as possible.
CONGRATULATIONS to the children from Doolin Nation School who celebrated their First Confession last
Wednesday. No matter what age we are, may we never be too proud to say sorry when we’re in the wrong!
Bring God everything: your dreams, your success, your rejoicing. And if you have little to rejoice over, bring him
that little. And if your life seems only like a heap of fragments, bring him the fragments. And if you have only
empty hands, bring him your empty hands. Shattered hopes are his raw material. In his hands all is made good.
