LIGHT THE FIRE: a lovely faith-filled summer day out at Ballintubber Abbey on Sunday, August 4th with Dana, Archbishop Francis Duffy, and Deacon John Taaffe. You will remember Deacon John and Deacon Pat from the parish mission healing session. This event begins at 1:15pm with Our Lady’s Rosary, followed by Mass and a healing service.
DIOCESAN MEETINGS WITH BISHOP MICHAEL: in our continuing discernment about the future deployment of diocesan personnel, buildings, and resources, Bishop Michael held a meeting with the Parish Pastoral Councils and Parish Finance Committees of our Kilfenora Deanery in The Falls Hotel last Monday night. While I found the meeting challenging, especially when confronted with the numbers of churches, Masses, and poor attendances at them, I found the meeting hopeful as well. Jesus is our hope, and He is risen, alive, and with us, and we must never give into despair.
I was impressed by Bishop Michael’s personal sharing of his own faith-journey, and by the powerful contribution of one young man who shared that he had only been “going through the motions” of going to Mass until he visited MedJugorje, when his faith came alive, thank God. Now he is on fire to minster to other young people and wants to study theology to that end.
Mrs. Ann Thynne, secretary of the Parish Council, sends this report: there was great representation from the six North Clare parish groups, priests and people. The theme of the first of three nights was: what does it mean to be a parish? The groups were then asked to reflect on three questions: how did we feel about being there? Why am I a Catholic? How can we become co-responsible and mission-focused in our parish? These were three interesting topics and gave people food for thought and sharing with each-other in our groups and with the other groups. We meet again next week to discuss and clarify what it means to be a Parish Pastoral Council and a Parish Finance committee. A commissioning ceremony will take place in September in the cathedral, and a final night will be held in October with the theme: how’s it going? These training-sessions are in preparation for the future shape of our parishes.
MEDJUGORJE 2024: Due to a cancellation, we have a couple of seats available on our parish pilgrimage departing from Shannon on August 28th. Please contact Marie on 085 8079643 if you’re interested.

THAT’S NOT MY JOB! This is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody. There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody’s job.Everybody thought that Anybody could to it, but Nobody realised that Everybody wouldn’t do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.
