Parish News
SINCERE CONGRATULATIONS to the Clare team on their All-Ireland victory after a spellbinding game of hurling. Would ye please say a prayer for the Galway lads this weekend!
SINCERE THANKS from Mary Cooney to all involved in her lovely bene merenti award celebration in Kilshanny last weekend. May I add my thanks also.
THANK YOU FOR LAST WEEK’S COLLECTION: €1617.
SOME PERSONAL TIME: since being blest with this parish appointment nearly three years ago, there has been a lot to attend to and I have not had much time for a break. Therefore, during the months of September and October (not for the full months!) I will be taking some personal time. During those times, there will no daily Mass, but of course there will be weekend Mass cover. Please contact Mary on 086 8236596 to book Masses, or book them with me well in advance. More details nearer the time.
POP UP SHOP: pre-loved clothes, Pavilion, Sunday, Sept 15.
BUS ESCORT POSITION being advertised by the Board of Management of Doolin National School on educationposts.ie. Closing date is July 30th. You can also email doolinns@gmail.com
CEMETERY MASSES will be celebrated please God at 7pm over the next three Wednesday evenings, weather permitting. Mass will be held in the local church if weather is bad. Obviously there will be no Adoration on these evenings. Please don’t be annoyed if we have to move to the church. We cannot have holy Mass in the rain as it’s hard to protect the Sacred Hosts from getting wet and soggy, and then they are very hard to distribute.
Wednesday, July 31: Kilshanny cemetery.
Wednesday, August 7th: Kilmoon cemetery.
Wednesday, August 14th, Doolin cemetery.
We are all beloved and baptised sons and daughters of God,members of our Catholic Church. On a local level, we are members of our local churches too. On a practical level, we are all responsible for our local church grounds and cemeteries and shouldn’t just assume that someone else will do it. Volunteering our time for this is a lovely way of putting prayer into action, honouring those gone before us, and giving something back to God. Thank you to the Fas members and local volunteers who are doing this already, but they cannot do it alone. It would be good to have our cemeteries looking well for the Masses for our loved ones buried there. It’s the least they deserve for all the sacrifices they made for us and for our country’s freedom in much harder times, sacrifices which are known to God alone. May we imitate their courage and patriotism, values sadly lacking in our self-obsessed world.
A BEAUTIFUL REFLECTION FOUND ON A MEMORIAL CARD: tread softly, softly, o men coming in! Mavourneen is going from me and from you, where Mary will fold him with mantle of blue! From reek of the smoke and cold of the floor, and the peering of things across the half-door. O men of the fields, soft, softly come through Mary puts round him her mantle of blue.
