BENEMERENTI AWARD TO MRS MARY COONEY: this is a medal awarded by Pope Francis for service to the Church. Mary, our long-serving and ever-gracious and patient sacristan of St. Augustine’s Church, Kilshanny, was nominated by her colleagues in Kishanny Church Choir for the award. It will be presented to Mary please God at the 7pm Mass in Kilshanny this Saturday evening, July 20, by Monsignor Peter Rabbitte. I often tell people that Mary is the real PP of Kilshanny! Thank you, Mary, for all you do and are.
It would be great if choirs from the other churches of the parish could take part in this Mass, and also if parishioners from the other three churches could attend. There will be refreshments served afterwards.
REEK SUNDAY is next Sunday, July 28th, our national day of pilgrimage to Croagh Patrick. Holy Masses will be celebrated hourly on the summit from 8am to 2pm, with Confession available from 7:30am to 2pm.
STORIES OF FAITH: there’s nothing more encouraging than the faith-witness of others. I’m sure many of you have amazing stories you could share, which would inspire the rest of us! If anyone has an appropriate faith-story to share with us at Mass, maybe a tough experience that God brought you through, please let me know. You could be God’s channel for bringing great grace, healing, and hope to the lives of others, letting them know that they are not alone. And you will give them a break from listening to me! If you don’t want to actually tell the story, you could write it out for me please, and you can remain anonymous if you wish.
THE HURLER’S PRAYER: grant me, O Lord, a hurler’s skill, with strength of arm and speed of limb, unerring eye for the flying ball, and courage to match what e’re befall. May my stroke be steady and my aim be true, my actions manly and my misses few, and no matter what way the game may go, may I rest in friendship with every foe, and when the final whistle for me is blown, and I stand at last before God’s judgment throne, may the great referee when He calls my name, say, you hurled like a man, you played the game. (Seamus Redmond.)
AT A CHURCH DOOR: When you enter this church, it may be possible that you hear the call of God. However, it is unlikely that He will call you on your mobile. Thank you for turning off your phones. If you want to talk to God, enter, choose a quiet place, and talk to Him. If you want to see Him, send Him a text while driving.
