VOCATIONS: We are coming to the end of the year of prayer for vocations to the diocesan (parish) priesthood. There isn’t a vocations-crisis,there’s a listening crisis, and there’s a courage-crisis. The most dangerous virus of all is “commitment-itis,” fear of any type of long-term commitment.Jesus is still calling young men and not so young men to be priests, but nowadays it’s a lot harder to hear God’s voice. Then we can be unwilling to listen, because we’re afraid of what God will ask of us! Fr. Ian O’Neill is our diocesan vocation director, but he would say that you are all vocation-directors. So if you know a young or older man whom you think has what it takes to be a good priest, tell him! Sow the seed of a vocation, and our Lord and His blessed Mother will richly reward you. I can guarantee you that the priesthood is not without challenges, like any calling in life, but it's a happy and fulfilling calling, because what could make you happier than helping people and setting them free in Jesus’ name? Contrary to what a lot of people say, the priesthood is anything but a lonely life! You really appreciate the precious moments of quiet prayer that you do get!
There’s an ALL-NIGHT VIGIL OF PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS to priesthood in our diocese of Galway-Kilfenora and in the diocese of Clonfert beginning at 7pm on Sunday, April 21 in Galway cathedral, concluding before the 11am Mass on Monday 22nd. You can pop in for as long or as little a time as you want.
There’s a VOCATIONS INFORMATION AFTERNOON in Galway on Sunday, April 28. If you feel called to minister as a priest and would like to attend this afternoon, contact Fr. Ian at 087 2048497, or on galwaypriesthood@gmail.com Please keep Fr. Ian and his ministry of vocation-recruitment in your prayers.
